Deck Strategy
So, this deck really isn't all that special. It's heavy political with some shenanigans I liked to try out tossed in.

Welcome to Standard Crane Initiatives:

Role: Keeper of Air
In my humble opinion, once both FoF and GoH were both put on the RL it was just not worth going Seeker. Seeker fate is good but until we get the upcoming HUGE influx of cards for Crane there just is no reason to not pick GoH as restricted. That leave Mag Station and.... Meditations? Eh. That said, I don't run Keeper Initiates. Madness, I hear you say. But seriously, I don't really care about something that doesn't have that fun little keyword "Courtier". Free bodies are nice, I get that, but I actually feel like my dynasty side is all just... Standard?

Province Lineup:
Basically what any other Keeper deck is probably running, just we have Mag Station because the fates favored us. Rally on the Stronghold and hope for the hits to come at the right time. The only 'weak' one here is Manicured and we kinda need the money for the conflict characters so, win-win.

Dynasty:
Somewhat match-up dependent but honestly, one of three situation:
-Cautious Scout vs Rough Provinces (Dragon/Scorp/Crane)
-GoH (Pretty much anytime, maybe not Dragon? But that void fist tho)
-Cheapo Delux (Callow/Doji/Brash)

If you don't see at least one of those three categories you will be in for a rough time (that or just pass and pray for Conflict Characters).

Asami and Savvy were judgement calls but I still think they're quite good. Everything else seems fairly... Standard?

Conflict:
Here's where I'm going to get some head scratches I'd wager.

Basic premise and fear: Cloud
All my dudes have text boxes that are really good; you know what sucks? When that text magically disappears!
~3 x Let Go~
(Hey FFG, can I get a Pol Duel in-faction with 3 influence that blows up attach, thx, you could call it... Imperial Confiscation)
Also, against Crab/Uni it is essential to destroy key pieces (Talisman/Watch)

Basic premise and strategy: Guest is gud, like RL level gud
Would it not be awesome to tell your opponent to just stop beating you up and go home. But! Dudes bow after conflicts, I hear you say. Indeed, but what if (hear me out) you could send them back into the thick of it just to throw off your opponents game plans! Voila!
~2x Hawk Tattoo~
That said, I have 3 favorable as well. But Fav Ground has lots of juke capacity with Doji Challenger, etc so i like that flexibility.
"First action, Hawk tattoo" has frustrated many a plan out of event heavy decks.

1 x tattooed is for the surprise covert or the 2 mil for 1. It's like a fine katana that can also let me be sneaky from time to time.
1 x ancient master was mainly for sneak grabs on Imp Favor but also just to fully utilize my influence as I felt like the rest of the deck was fine. (the case could be made to slot in a third steward of law but I liked the occasional "surprise, favor goes to me" moments)

2x each of the standard crane character package makes this tricky if you don't see key pieces of the defensive strat but honestly, I usually burn through half the deck or more in most games so I can't recall not seeing folks (more often than not it was actually too many of them...)

Events --- Is there really anything that surprising in here? I suppose 2 censure is odd, but 1 just didn't feel like enough and 3 is too much. I've had a number of times where Voice was just blown through earlier but censure pulled me back, so I'm content with it.

Overall strategy:
Get the provinces scouted with Cautious if you can, otherwise minimal commitment. Get the favor and just roll on through. Menacing and brash can do strong work on the defense. Juke pulls with Challenger is solid. GoH shuts down half the factions in the game, throw her everywhere as often as you can and keep those pesky clouds off her. Yoshi or Hotaru can easily close out a stronghold with some covert support. Ring selection I've found to be dependent on the match-up but Earth/Fire/Void were frequent choices. Fire was mainly to setup bridge tossing with void used as a defensive against being used on me. Earth is just good. I'll take free cards all day. In the end, I've won via conquest mainly but also dishonor a handful of time (Hello, Asami!). Obviously I'm no trail-blazing genius here but I'm always down for thoughts and questions. Good luck to my fellow Cranes out there!

Elemental Championship Writeup - 1/26/19 Martinsburg WV (Your Hobby Place)

First of all, I want to thank the folks who ran and hosted the event. The venue was fantastic, the staff professional and the space to play was great. I could not have asked for a better reintroduction to tournament scenes.

Secondly, my fellow Rokuganites... Rokuganians... Rokugani? (Yes, Rokugani) You chaps and lasses were all phenomenal people. An absolute blast to lose-erm play against! Great plays were made, great misplays were made and throughout it all I could not stop smiling. Thank you all for being so welcoming and just generally good folks.

Onto the match-ups!

Round 1 - Bye
Well, ok. I wasn't going to say no to a free win and a break after driving up there. I fueled up on beverages and a light snack to replenish and focused on studying cards per clan. Spent some time thinking about my match-ups some more and actually joining the discord community as I realized I'll have an impact now. Gadzooks!

Round 2 - Dragon Dueling Shenanigans (Win)
Alright, this was just such a cool deck to see in action. I know I've theory-crafted something like this in the past but just couldn't pilot the damn thing. This guy used Crane splash for Above Question and Duelist Training. Beefed up Raitsugu or Investigator were the call of the day. He also had Alchemist and Yokuni but they didn't join the party for me. This one was a bit of a slog fest. Just when I thought I had him on the ropes... MORE ATTACHMENTS. Like I get it, that's the dragon shtick, but really made my 3-fate guest just not happy to play at these parties. Honestly, just stuck to making #goodplays and somehow came out through a covert stronghold bust. Seriously, such a fun game. Off to a good start 2-0
MVP - Let Go, turns out I like being able to play events against my opponent and Above Question is troublesome. Also... no clouds showed up? Not even mad tho.

Round 3 - Phoenix Phish Bois (Loss)
This one went rough, I looked across from me and saw an Imperial Palace right off the bat (if there had also been Kanjo I may have actually gone Full Iron Crane mode). Knowing that I'd most likely never have favor, I had to play to my outs and hope to get a crack on the province. I felt alright with a cautious but sadly I just wasn't able to break it turn one with what cards I grabbed. From there it was an eventual slow grinding out of the game. Fish bois were successfully baited out once but it just wasn't enough. Eventually I succumbed to the wet wet death of not having favor and 2 censures in hand. I did, however, throw a 3 fate Tadaka off a bridge (and still lost...). It was a well played match by my opponent and I'm sure he never felt on the back foot (since I basically did from turn one). Sadly, made a really dumb move and forgot for all of ten seconds about Shiba Yojimbo. I got Yojim-bro'd. ugh... Considering how often I practice that match-up... I bring dishonor to my family...
So, 2-1, but I'm still feeling alright.
MVP - TURN ONE IMPERIAL PALACE. OH COME ON!!!
PS. My first draw five saw me both censures. The universe is a cruel bitch.

Round 4 - Crab Dishonor? (Win)
So this game was basically the exact opposite of the previous match. I felt in the driver's seat from the beginning. I got my flips when I needed them and the cards in hand to answer all his plays. Fun fact: our stronghold actually has text. I forgot that. Usually, I just gaze at it and think "wow that's pretty artwork". Shizuka Toshi did some strong work in tandem with key dishonor and forcing attachments on dudes that could have been better on towers. Got to threatening the stronghold and had a better board state. My opponent had a real gracious attitude about it though, analyzed the situation and conceded. Gotta admit, an honorable crab. Almost makes me want to send him some jade. Almost.
3 - 1, neat.
MVP- Shizuka Toshi, GUYS! GUYS, IT HAS TEXT! I know, I know! Crazy, amirite?

So due to the size of the tournament it was only 4 rounds before cut. I look at the leaderboard and somehow I'm #2. Clearly a clerical error but I snap a picture for posterity because that won't happen again. I'm feeling pretty great as I'd just wanted one win and had gotten 2 of my own skill and 1 because the universe is generous at times.

Top 8 - Scorpion Bridge-Chucking Murder Death Kill Dishonor (Loss)

OOF.
How best to put this: I went into this match knowing it would be rough. I had heard that he was running the crane package for the Nob Sac setup and I commended him for the superior clan choice. But, that said, I knew I was in for a rough time. He got ignoble on turn one and I got a whole lot of nothing. I played it safe and bid 3 turn one. He bid one. Yup, I'm in for one of THOSE games. I figure I can pull out some honor from my dudes leaving and maybe go air. Slam into Secret Cache, no way to break it. OOF. Turn 2, he grabs Shiori. I desperately need answers as once again my dynasty flop was haute gar-bage. Two censures, Two let gos, one nob sac. CUTE. I proceed to lose 5 honor that round. He does choose to nob sac Shiori to force me to lose an honor but still has an HONORED Ignoble. I'm at 2 honor start of round 3. Looking guuuud. Yoshi, cheeky chap he is, flips and is my only hope at this time. I have 2 way of and 2 SBR, should be able to pull of something right? Way of scorp, mark of shame, forged. Get wrekt. And then he had ignoble throw Yoshi off a bridge. The mental imagery was spectacular to contemplate. At that point I had no money, no useful cards and he had a ready guy. Conceded and ended my journey. That guy also happened to win the whole tourney so there's that? The dude was really cool (for a scorpion) and I enjoyed talking the game out with him afterwards. He clearly had a better pull that game then I did but still fun.
MVP - Ignoble Enforcers and Nob Sac and Mark of Shame and.... huh that's funny...
PS. NO VOICE OF HONOR. That's cool I guess, can't get god pulls all the time.
Funny story: During the match he commented how many more cards I had (as I, honestly, hadn't played much). Internally I thought: "Would be nice if they weren't dead cards, but hey they buffers for earth ring, right?"

So scrubbed out in top 8 but I don't feel like I made too many catastrophically bad plays. I missed two triggers and forgot about Yojim-bro but overall I'm content. Looking forward to making my way to some more tournaments. We'll see if this bad boy is scrapped before the next one or not.
Always up for comments or questions. I'm no big-brain plays kinda man, but damn this game is amazing.
