So this deck is an update to my classic Spicy Crabcakes that is a Crab/Scorpion dishonoring deck.
So here is a breakdown of how this deck works.

Provinces: Your Stronghold is Midnight Revels always. Shameful is one that should always be defended to the bitter end. Throw a body into Upholding Authority to avoid your own honor loss but let that one break of you can or force it too if your opponent is unwilling. Before the Throne is one you shouldn't mind if it breaks so help out with that if you can. Into the Forbidden City is attachment hate but you want to defend this one to the death as well.

The decks win condition is to cause your opponent honor loss so defensive strategies are more important than attacking. If you can only strike once per round or just never at all, breaking provinces is not a priority for you.

1). Draining Honor: So to help drain honor there are several cards to advance your win condition. Intimidating Hida is so big and intimidating he causes honor loss when ever your opponent decides to pass on a conflict. Levy can steal honor or fate so win win either way. Watch Commander taxes honor from your opponent ever time they play a card. Backhanded Compliment takes an honor but gives your opponent a card which is what you want them to do. Also using a Guardian Kami in an air ring conflict can also steal away honor.

Dishonoring characters also helps as it weakens your opponent and when they leave play causes more honor loss. Shosuro Miyako, Shameful Display, Unspoken Etiquette, Mark of Shame, Court Games and For Shame! all dishonor cards while Warden of the Damed, Way of the Crab and Assassinate help to make them die quicker.

Lastly there is the honor daily for card draw phase, where you will low bid quite a bit to siphon honor early on. Cards like Yasuki Broker, Kaiu Envoy, and Imperial Storehouse are key to off setting your low hand bids. Also one copy of Contingency Plan means at one point in the game you will want to have your daily bid be 0 for maximum honor leech.

2). Defensive Combat: As is tradition you being the honorable crab you are wants to defend rather than attack. To that end there are several cards here to help that. Your power cards are Kuni Yori, Witch Hunter, Intimidating Hida, and Yasuki Oguri. Oguri gets covert so protection from that and he shelf pumps whenever an event is played by your opponent. Kuni Yori gives a pump to everyone during Earth conflicts and can force your opponent to lose a card from their hand. Which Hunters keep people upright at the cost of another so try to use this when a Broker is active.

Little helpers are Hida Guardian who can pump someone when you control a holding. Yasuki Procurer helps to lower cost of attachments or characters. Hiruma Signaller is the closest to a Fight On you'll get in this deck. The new gem is Student of Anatomies which gives a cloud the mind effect from sacrificing guys.

Pumps include Kuni Lab, Spreading the Darkness, and Banzai along with the stronghold's ability. In Defense of Rokugan is here to nurf the big boys, and a Way of the Crab is always nice to drop in the right moment. A Jade Tetsubo is a nice +3 and can un-fate an opponent's character which can matter a lot more if they have been Dishonored too.

Dishonoring mechanics also help to make beating your defense more difficult. Mountain Does Not Fall keeps your characters upright and ready, while Cloud the Mind nurfs annoying characters who may be around long term.

3). Other Cards: Censure is here for a key stop when you need it, Imperial Palace can help you steal away the favor to add another pump to your forces. Vanguard Warrior keeps people around longer, while Keeper Initiates have that sweet keeper recursion. Karada District is more attachment hate. The last fun card here is Softskin which will either keep an annoying guy bowed or more importantly force cards to be milled from your opponents conflict deck. This helps to weaken their ability to breakthrough your defenses and also force them to lose cards which if they draw out is a very big honor loss which is more important.

So that's that, my recent tweaks to my Spicy Crabcakes. I hope you all enjoy this decks maybe it'll give you some inspiration and good luck you spicy Crabs you.

I played my first game today with your last version of this and really had a good time with it. It was a very interesting game against a Lion Honour running deck exploring the "fewer cards in hand " strat too. That last part didn't really work for my opp today, but I've never played a game where so much of the game revolved around "how many cards do you have" and "how much honour" do you have. I like this idea and I like the new inclusions. One thing I was thinking was that it would be great to trim your conflict deck down to 40 cards. If you're drawing minimal cards each time, you really want to get the cards you want. Softskin seems a great inclusion, and fits better than the 3 x Jade Tetsubo for sure.
Also, fucking dig the Wu reference.
First off, WU TANG! Secondly I'm glad you are enjoying the deck. Yes I could stand to shave a bit off the conflict deck but I haven't gotten enough test matches in to know what I'm comfortable removing so you are more than welcome to remove what ever you think is excess cards.

I love Softskin especially when played on a character you know your opponent wants (or needs to use). Since we don't have a lot of dedicated scorpion players at the comic shop I play at it's hard to tell if that card is slept on or not.

And yes low bidding is a thing. It was something I fine-tuned with the Spicy Crabcakes 2 deck and hopefully with this version low bidding won't put the deck in a late game corner like the last one.
For those of you who have cloned this deck or will clone it I have removed 3 cards. Jade Tetsubo because I have drawn it so very little, Contingency Plan since I've never used in all the test matches I've had so far but had it in my hand each time and Unspoken Etiquette which was kinda just there to try it out.
Wu-Tang forever BB!

I've cloned your deck and I've tinkered with it a little. I haven't had a chance to play with my modified version yet, but having a look at your list I'm wondering, am I missing a restricted card inclusion? I thought of experimenting with Gateway to Meido as it could really feed the sacrifice machine, though I admittedly have no idea how it will actually work in practice.

I'm liking the inclusion of the Student of Anatomies. I think "it"(?) is a nice fit in this deck, and I was also thinking that Warm Welcome might fit nicely, especially if you kept a contingency plan in hand (would WW still work after playing a CP to reduce your honour bid to zero?). Could be crucial to gain that last backhanded compliment or levy.

And a final thought was that Goblin Sneak may also be a decent fit. If you are playing Levy, but you really want the honour then the sneak would be a fine way to remove that pesky last fate from an opponent :)

Looking forward to giving this deck a spin over the next few nights.

Cheers!
RoninRosko I don't have any restricted list cards in this deck cus I took out the Fate Worse Then Deaths. Gateway wouldn't be bad but you have no way to really force your opponent into it or away from it with out Talisman which would mean a totally different splash. Warm Welcome just needs your honor bid to be lower and I don't see why it wouldn't work on a turn where CP was used since Contingency Plan is a reaction to the bids being revealed.
So just a heads up I've updated this deck to meet it's current line up based on the play testing I've been doing with it -Boothberry90
Hey Booth, can I ask how playtesting is going and what your results have been like? I've got a game against my Crane brother tonight.
Ah the tough match up. Crane is always tricky for me cus of their ability to counter events and honor their guys

I've been having no trouble beating up my other Crabs 2-0 and did pretty well against a dragon monk deck 1-2 (Had a friend of mine play me with my other decks and he got me on the rubber match cus of a bad flop). I can tell you from my experience with the previous two versions of the deck Crane will be your ultimate test.
Also just a friendly tip, if your Brother uses dueling Crane's save your Contingency Plans for duels you don't care about losing or if you can, in tandem with a Watch Commander for maximum honor drain.
