Deck Strategy
After making adjustments and talking to other players to help with my own builders block, here is the fifth edition in my line of Spicy Crabcakes, the Dishonor themed Crab Clan deck. Like all the other versions this is a defense first deck built to grind away your opponents honor as they bang helplessly against your full frontal crusade. There are elements from Crabbits added to this deck as it is a strong meta deck for Crab and to not add some of it would be irresponsible in my opinion. Without further adieu here is the decks breakdown.

Stronghold & Provinces: So big difference with this deck compared to other Crabs is that the old box is still seeing play. I prefer it's wide pump and +3 province boost over Kyuden Hida which is by no means a bad Stronghold just not the one I personally like for this deck type. Your province row will always have Shameful Display, Midnight Revels and Defend the Wall in it. Under your box will be either Kuni Wasteland or Frostbitten Crossing, but that decision should be made based on the match up you are facing. Frostbitten for Tower decks like Lion and Unicorn (also possibly Dragon), and Wasteland for everything else.

Dishonorable Win: So winning via dishonoring your opponent to death is why this deck is what it is. It should do this often and well, and here's why. Firstly we have the aforementioned Shameful Display which lets you dishonor an opposing character while honoring yours (your characters wont benefit to much from the latter part of that effect but its nice to have anyway). Intimidating Hida is not only a big body to help defend during those pesky military conflicts but taxes an honor when your opponent decides to skip combat all together. Purifier Apprentice is a gem in this deck; cheap, a Shugenja and has a killer ability. When you win a conflict as defender she taxes your opponent for one honor. Though she is an instant assassination target you still wanna play her with a couple fate tacked on cus having that ability long term is crucial to you achieving your win condition. Two Levys help you to either add fate to your fate pool (always a plus) or more importantly help to chip away at your opponent's honor depending on the choice they make. This can be beneficial early game and being played during the dynasty phase while characters are being bought into play makes for an interesting time to drop this one. Backhanded Compliment is here to finish an adversary off when their Honor is at it's ultimate low so save them for that moment. Lastly Watch Commander punishes players by taxing honor whenever your opponent plays a card from their hand during a conflict in which attached character is participating.

Dishonoring is also a way to siphon honor, and there are cards here that do that too. Shosuro Miyako & Mark of Shame are a pair each of the scorpion splash that will allow you to do this. Court Games also allows for some good old fashioned political dishonoring, while For Shame! either dishonors or forces a bow, both of which are good options.

The last piece of the dishonoring puzzle is hand bids. Bid 5 to open unless you have an envoy or something that warrants a lower bid first turn, then by all means do so. But you typically don't wanna low bid to soon and you really only want to start hitting their honor with hand bids after cards like Funeral Pyre, Yasuki Broker, Kaiu Envoy, Shrewd Yasuki and Unyielding Sensei are out to make it easier on you to maintain a hand size by drawing out of turn essentially. Proper bidding and out of turn hand draw are very important to helping punish the opposing player as they slowly watch their pool of useless honor drain away.

Defending Your Wall!: So the deck wins through attrition and as Crab is wanted to do you will forgo most if not all your offensive actions in a round to host a stout defense instead. The mechanics that dishonor characters help in this endeavor, especially against high glory clans. Yasuki Oguri is a stud in this regard, again an assassinate target but we as Crabs have cards to work around that. His having Covert, being a Courtier (to help trigger For Shame!) and the unlimited pump he gets from your opponent playing cards from their hand in conflicts he defends make him amazing. Student of Anatomies and Cloud the Mind help to nurf guys with annoying abilities or pesky duel tech (bleh) as does Kuni Wasteland. Midnight Revels will bow the biggest guy on the board so remember that if you play on of the few 4 drops this deck has. Frostbitten Crossing is B-E-A-Utiful attachment hate as is Calling In Favors which will snatch attachments for you, potentially weakening an opponent's assault. Kuni Lab and Shiro Nishiyama add board wide pumps to your swarm. Banzai is for that much needed pump but make sure you use it carefully especially when you have a Lab or two present. Jade Tetsubo is a big military boost with a nice tower hating ability if you can get your guy big enough.

The Other Cards: Assassinate and Way of the Crab help to keep your opponent humble lest they feel thy mighty pincer! The Mountain Does Not Fall is a must in any Crab deck and needs no real explanation. Those Who Serve let you play your swarm on the cheap so they stick around longer, which is also why Iron Mine and Reprieve are here too. Witch Hunters help to trun key players back upright when needed, while Quartermasters and Keeper Initiates are nice fodder chuds to sacrifice to your Crustacean God. Finally Kaiu Forge lets you dig for a holding you need and is a nice boost itself to a province you want to defend if you want to keep it around for that sweet +3 to province strength.

All in all I think this is as solid a Spicy Crabcakes deck as any of the others and some of the adjustments help to make it more effective and deadly in it's pursuit. I hope you all enjoy this deck, feel free to leave comments, questions or suggestions below and pinch on my might Crabs!

I changed Defend the Wall with City of Rich Frog to try that province out with this deck. I think there is merit for having it as my Earth province over Void I use Shamful to help Dishonor opponents cards in my bid to dishonor them to death. Not sure if this will be a good move or not have to test the new province out in actual matches but I am hopeful.

I also swapped one Funeral Pyre for a third Yasuki Broker. I like having three of her cus her effect is awesome and she helps shore up some of my decks weaknesses politically.

-Boothberry90
Took out one Cloud the Mind since I only have 7 Shugs in my deck for a second In Defends of Rokugan
Dropped Yasuki Broker and Student of Anatomies since they were both not towing the line enough for this deck, and added in another Witch Hunter and 3 Recalled Defenses

-Boothberry90
Adjusted the holding count to add two copies of Sukune to add to the out of turn card draw and let me pressure honor more

-Boothberry90
Wasn't liking Recalled Defenses as much for my deck and it's play style so I dropped them to give me back my two holdings and a third Sukune.
Messing around with Season of War to see if I like it or not
Replaced my two copies of Levy with the Slovenly Scavenger so I can in theory get expended conflict cards back or refill my dynasty deck if need be.

-Boothberry90
Didn't quite care for Season of War in this deck so I dropped them and Sukune was brought down to 2 so I can add two Hida Guardians and bring Iron Mine up to 3

-Boothberry90
I see Hida Kotoe didn't make it in this version. How did that character perform for you?
What about putting in a Kogoe in place of a Sukune? You could also try to fit in a Hatsu (the courtier that searches for attachments), perhaps in place of an Intimidating Hida
Sorry Severijn & Daidoji Hikori for answering back so late to both of you.

Hida Kotoe was nice but she cost to much and I never got quite the right amount of return on investment for her. I get more out of Calling in Favors which replaced her.

Intimidating Hida is a must for this style of deck. His cost isn't to high for the military strength he gives and making an opponent lose an honor for not attacking is big in mirror matches and against Scorpions. Hida Sukune ability is just better in my personal opinion. Yes I have to drop a card from my hand but if that card is a dud and has been for a while, it's not much of a loss. At least that's my opinion on Sukune
Swapped Midnight Revels for Shinsei's Last Hope, cus honestly I'm not put off by the dishonor effect of the province and I like that it makes my guys cheaper.
I decided to drop all three copies of Those Who Serve as the sudden rise of A Season of War has made the card obsolete or worse a wasted play. Added some Contingency Plans again to see if I like them as a replacement. Still iffy on ASoW myself for a Dishonor Crab but I haven't stopped trying to figure out which dynasty cards to swap for it yet either. Gonna try and keep my conflict deck at 40 cards now too.

-Boothberry90
Some more changes that I think will work better here. Dropped Yori, and all three of my clouds. Since my Shugenja count is so low cloud is more a dead card for me than helpful (which sucks I like cloud the mind). Have a full set of Hida Guardians, full set of Levy, dropped my goblins for Nezumi Infiltrator, cus he's cheap, he pumps province strength and her can be used in any conflict type. Hopefully this set up will allow me to effectively Dishonor my foe while still maintaining a stout defense. Still trying to figure out if I can fish Yasuki Broker back in but that may just be a pipe dream.
-Boothberry90
So I fiddled with the dynasty side of the deck some more. Dropped my Hida Guardian back down to 2 so Kaiu Forge can come back in. Swapped a season of war for Recalled Defenses, and with the addition of Shinsei's Last Hope I elected to drop my Kuni Lab down to a pair so as to help mitigate the honor loss. Funeral Pyre was brought down to a one of since I have a lot of draw out of turn mechanics to add the newest piece of my decks Dishonor strat, Hiruma Outpost. The Outpost is an automatic target for Recalled Defenses and if everything works out in practice the way it does in my head than your opponent should be losing honor even more frequently. Especially if you can clear your board of provinces.

-Boothberry90
Dropped funeral pyre entirely to have a full set of Hida Guardians. I think the amount of card draw I get from my other dynasty deck cards is enough to offset losing the pyres

-Boothberry90
Dropped Sukune for three butchers to see if they give me more value than he did.
