Strategy
Hi!

I´m Pablo Pintor, the spanish guy who got to top 8 of worlds(with a 5-1 only losing to Jakub during the swiss) with a really strange Crab Deck. I´ll try to explain the deck choices and how to play it, and a little report later. Keep in mind that English is not my mother language, so there will be some mistakes, patience!

First of all, I have to say that the idea of this deck comes from a long time ago, before the restricted list came into the game, and it started as a funny deck featuring all of crab bad cards (tomonatsu, raise the alarm...), but to my surprise some of that things worked really seriously well, and even if the deck started as a joke, i kept on playing with it and making changes until I reached what I considered a really good deck, but it got totally destroyed by the restricted list (it run iron mines, charges, mirumotos fury, policy debate...), and got forgotten....until the last cycle for crab brought two very specific cards for that decks, Yasuki Broker and Kuni Laboratory, both of them incredibly good for that wide strategy, and I had to test it again.

The deck has two primary weapons: FEAR AND SURPRISE!...sorry, I mean, a wide strategy that is hard for control decks and a lot of draw power and tempo moves.

It was pretty funny seeing my first opponents during the swiss (when nobody had seen my deck), making strange faces when I charged someone or played Hurricane Punchs. Pretty sure they thought they lost to a bad deck :D As we had alredy seen that surprised faces in Spain, whe choose to call the deck: "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!".

Onto the deck itself, the main idea was to build a crab deck faster than the popular crab with unicorn, a good deck, but too slow for the meta, who could maintain the pressure. Because of that, I decided to run charge as my restricted card, and, with charge, RtA becames a much stronger card, fill with the mandatory events in every crab deck, all the sacrifices for the Yasuki Broker and 10 conflict characters to use the Laboratories to their fullest, dragon splash for destroying cloud the mind on key characters, and you got the deck. There were too few slots in the conflict deck to play enough attachments (as usually, less than 6x attachment will get easily destroyed), so I decided to go full event, with censure and the awesome hurricane punch. I also was very pleased to be able to play for shame! for the first time in crab, a staple in much of the other clans. With 9 courtiers, and 6 of them being very important to the deck, you are going to spend a lot of fate on them and they will be around for the whole game. The storehouses are pretty good on their own, but they will be used with Satoshi or Rebuild to prepare RtA. The deck alredy has a lot of honor loss, so I couldn´t play 2 assassinations as I usually do in crab, and mono no aware proved to be great in certain situations, and sets up crazy good Way of the Crab situations.

The main idea of the deck is to have a Satoshi out early, get a lot of keepers and holdings in the discard, and revive and sacrifice the keepers as much times as you can. If you also have the Yasuki Broker, the deck is almost unstoppable, and laboratories are the muscle of the deck. Skirmishers are great for getting those keepers out or taking key provinces, or those big, final pushes onto the enemy SH. But with this deck you will have to adapt to what you get, a lone Envoy charging a witch hunter can also be a great first round!

I hope that with this deck it will be proven that Crab/Unicorn is not the only crab deck, and people will try new things!

I had a great time during worlds with my crab brothers and players from all over the world, but I have to give special thanks to my playgroup, the Sunflower Samurais, for helping me to build and test this deck; Marcos, Yoeresel and FleepaO, my spanish friends that also came to worlds and made this an incredible experience; and Jakub, who fought really hard to have FFG paying my flight and hotel, I owe him this travel (I will have my revenge in the tables the next time!).

Wow, that was a lot of text, I hope it wasn´t so hard to read :P

I will try to do the reports for the games in the comments!!!
