Congratulations on you Kotei victory! If I may ask what was your reasoning behind a second Kuni Laboratory instead of The Imperial Palace?
I used to run palace so that I could try and run a copy of censure and have an extra imperial card for Satoshi. When I decided to drop assassination and wotc altogether I care less about decking myself and losing honor and rebuilding kuni labs is very very powerful in the deck. In my final match at Phoenix kotei I basically took my opponents sh with 3 keepers and a kuni labs. Could have even rebuilt the second one and it would have just been completely overwhelming. 2-3 Crab characters with sh and labs is really an overwhelming force in any mil or pol conflict without having to spend cards from hand. That is really important because Crab doesn't really play many pumps other than attachments in this style of deck. If my opponent is being forced to play pumps into wc and I can just have overwhelming stats this is a really strong position to be in.
Thanks for the detailed explanation it makes a lot of sense. Congratulations again!
How important is Mantis Tenknja for this deck? Have you considered running Miya Mystics instead for some attachment control?
If I could fit 3 Tenkinja I would. But I think a third FG would actually be the 41st card over them. They are very important. We often have lots of extra honor. But not enough fate. I don’t even run assassination so even moreso I have extra honor as a resource. In the top 8 stream, my game against Handsome Dan, I literally did not mulligan a single card vs him. Tenkinja was one of those cards and it definitely saved my ass. I got Kisada turn one and just defended vs the HMT lion as best I could for a bit. Turn 2 I got the Tenkinja. Dan Goblin’d my last fate away and if I didn’t have Tenkinja to play Fight On I would have probably lost a few provinces that turn.
Any general advice for running the deck? What you put under your stronghold and what you mull for?
Always river on sh. Mulligan strategies are very complicated and mu/deck dependent. What my opponents role, sh, clan tells me about them is very important information in making those decisions. But in a general sense if you're playing safe you want to buy a cheap character 1-2 cost turn one and then pass. Try and just not lose any provinces turn one. Go into turn 2 with some fate. But honestly I am very aggressive sometimes when I know I can get away with it. I always want to go first so I can get passing fate turn one. If I flip kisada turn 1 vs hmt (lion or uni) and I am first I will often just buy him with 2 fate then pass. Especially if I mulligan into a mndf or a fight on. Really you need to be aware of what your opponent is capable of. Once you know about stuff like that you can start to take advantage of them in different ways.
