Deck placed Top 4 Day 1, earning me Phoenix Hatamoto status and bye for Day 2. Of course, I failed the deck check since I forgot to write "Court Games - 3" on the list. So auto loss in Top 8. Comedic.

The deck was developed simultaneousl [continue reading]y as Ambience's Keeper of Fire Unicorn splash. We had discussed the IMS build and his ideas influenced a lot of the deck construction here. While the divergence is extremely noticeable, Ambience did lay the building foundation to the deck. I almost played this deck actually at the LVO Grand Championship. The central discussion was using Haughty Magistrate to neuter tower builds - Lion or Unicorn. Neither relies on characters with a glory stat higher than 2, so Haughty + IMS would simply get around any defensive tower thrown into the conflict. Haughty is also useful in getting around the large sea of bodies that Crabbits can throw out there since Kuni Labs only buffs Mil/Pol stats, not Glory. Additionally, being extremely aggressive with Tessen and the 1 or 2 cost characters that Phoenix can throw out there would work extremely well.

I felt that solely relying on Sanpuku Seido/Talisman or Haughty/Cloak of Night/IMS was too dangerous. I did test Ambience's version multiple times but it never sat well with me - differences in playstyles what it boiled down to. I knew the deck works based on the LVO results but I wanted to go back to the Dragon splash - Let Go's and Ancient Masters - and the protection that Censures bring. Also, while Haughty is good against Lion/Unicorn towers, it has a greater struggle with Dragon since both Mitsu and Yokuni have Glory 3 stats. So Consumed by Five Fires was my RL choice. It did mean that against towers I had to prioritize using Let Go on Spyglass, but the deck did give me better control.

Further discussion with some others on other non-Phoenix decks splashing Dragon gave me the cheeky idea to add 1x Togashi Kazue just to eat towers. I have had it work well, I did not get to utilize her in any games in the tournament that weekend but it works and I will keep her there for now. Ancient Masters work very well with Sanpuku Seido or Shameful Display.

There are some odd choices with the deck. There is room for refinement - I think SoA was not the answer but maybe SoF or going back to SoV for instance. I would like to see Clarity and drop Supernatural Storms. But I am happy with its performance overall.

So I understand the deck to create fate pressure. However, a lot of this involves winning a conflict and in order to win a conflict you need the cards that let you win. Having played this, I would make the following changes:
- Drop 2x Stand You [continue reading]r Ground, 2x Fires of Justice in favor of 3x Strength in Numbers.
- 3x Consumed by Five Fires is a bit much. Roll with 2x.
- Subdue the Spirits is extremely difficult to pull off. Remove them (2x) from the deck.
- With the three cards from bullets 2-3, go with 3x Banzai.
- I like Taryu-Jiai, hard card to pull off. I would remove 1x.
- I am not certain the purpose of Waning Hostilities, I would remove both.
- With another 3x card slot available, consider Supernatural Storm.
- Definitely drop 1x Assassination in favor of a 3rd For Shame.
- You have to be careful about Cloud the Mind.

I think Dynasty side is actually very strong, not much change there.

I shared a hybrid deck of this that I may have encountered at NOVA. Its perfromance was extremly strong, I liked it a lot.
